MAISH (Mpumalanga Artificial Intelligence Student Hackathon) is a provincial hackathon competition for student innovators and hackers, hosted jointly by the University of Mpumalanga's School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the Tshwane University of Technology's Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (eMalahleni Campus). MAISH supports the National Development Plan (Vision 2030) of the Government of the Republic of South Africa by advancing the objectives of Chapter 9, which focuses on improving education, training and innovation. The initiative also contributes to the Mpumalanga Vision 2030 socio-economic priorities by fostering digital skills, technological innovation and youth development. MAISH is further aligned with the strategic priorities of both partner institutions. At the Tshwane University of Technology, MAISH advances the University's commitment to producing future-ready graduates who create societal impact through research, innovation, engagement and technology transfer. At the University of Mpumalanga, the initiative supports the University's vision of creating an institutional environment that promotes high-impact scholarship, research and innovation. Through this collaborative partnership, MAISH provides a platform for students to develop artificial intelligence-driven solutions to real-world challenges while strengthening innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration across Mpumalanga's higher education sector.
